Photoblog Facelift

I’ve redesigned the photoblog for standards compliance, faster loading, and bigger pictures. All layout is now handled with CSS instead of tables, and horizontally-oriented pictures can be as wide as 525 pixels (instead of a mere 400 as before). I kept the overall “look” of the original Quixotic Pixels templates, but the code underneath is all new.

I’m very happy with the results, and I’d love to hear from my visitors on the matter. Does it look okay in Safari? In Opera? Thanks in advance for your help. :-)

Comment Conundrum

The comments on my blog and photoblog are behaving rather strangely. On the photoblog, the “remember info” checkbox will only cause your information to be stored for entries in the same category as the entries you’ve commented on. Over here on the main blog, “remember info” only works for the specific entry that you’ve commented on. :-/

From looking at the cookies set by my domain name on my own browser, it looks like the JavaScript functions that control this behavior are to blame. The cookies themselves contain directory data that is probably causing the problem. Are there any MT or JavaScript gurus out there willing to lend me a hand in fixing this?

In other, happier comment news: I’ve upgraded to the latest release of EZ Subscribe to Comments. Having the CGI script’s URL left behind in your address bar after commenting is no longer a problem! :-)

Long-Exposure Flashlight Fun

Dunstan over at 1976 Design found an interesting way to combine flashlights and long-exposure photography over the weekend. In the wee hours of Friday morning he made some very cool, if somewhat chaotic, pictures by setting up his camera for a long exposure while hopping around in front of it like mad with a flashlight in his hand. As he got better at it, he was able to produce more interesting pics by selectively illuminating his body with the flashlight while standing in different positions in the yard (very eerie).

By early Sunday morning, he’d perfected the technique and enlisted the help of some friends in producing “light angels.” Truly something to behold.
