My Name is Adam, and I’m a LiveJournal User
Apparently, I have a LiveJournal account and never knew it. Kind of odd that they’re providing syndicated information this way. Where’s the benefit in it for them? Doesn’t bother me I suppose, since they do state that the content is syndicated and provide a link back to the source (this blog). Wouldn’t want anyone to think I’m actually a LiveJournal user, after all.

Hmmm, at first I got all excited, because if I added you to my friends page it would be easier to keep up on when you update, but then when I tried to actually do so I noticed that their syndication is crap. Your posts are all cut-off and missing html, I’d have to go visit your blog anyway to read them. So poo on that. Guess I’m stuck actually looking at your page.

Sweet, I’ve been behind on reading your blog ever since I switched my blog over to LJ and my laptop died. I wonder who syndicated you…?

Jen: And is there something *wrong* with “actually looking at my page”? You really shouldn’t complain when *some* people I know (hint, hint) aren’t even syndicated at all.
Seriously, though, if you want to keep up with my blog without having to remember to drop by the web site I can think of a few options:
* AmphetaDesk ( http://www.disobey.com/amphetadesk/ ), which has a browser-like interface to your feed subscriptions.
* NetNewsWire ( http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/ ), which is very slick but costs a hefty $40.
* BottomFeeder ( http://snipurl.com/5r4r ), which is open source and cross-platform. It also has a catfish for a mascot.
* Pineapple ( http://snipurl.com/5r4q ), which I know little about except that it’s Mac OS X-native and in a free pre-release version.
* NewsMonster ( http://www.newsmonster.org/ ), which is very good but kind of has a tendency to take over your Mozilla installation completely.
* RSS Reader Panel for Mozilla Firefox ( http://snipurl.com/5r4n ), which is really simple but effective.
* Bloglines ( http://www.bloglines.com/ ), which is a web-based aggregation service.
* Subscribe to my notification e-mail list (see the “Subscription” module in the left-hand sidebar).
Hope that helps.
For you and other LJ users who’d like to syndicate their content I know there are services out there that do it. I’m having trouble finding them right now, however, since Google seems to be kind of wack with its search results lately. Try myRSS ( http://myrss.com/ ) for starters, and for the adequately geeky there’s also a Perl script that might help ( http://snipurl.com/5r4m ). Those who can handle Perl, however, really should just give up and get a hosted MovableType blog already.
Once you’ve gotten a feed ready, don’t forget to validate it ( http://www.feedvalidator.org ) and submit it to the various feed search engines listed in this article ( http://snipurl.com/5r4k ).

Mickey: No clue, really. I don’t know how LJ’s syndication system works. For all I know, they may have an RSS spider that crawls the web looking for feeds to index.
I have to admit, I’ve been behind on your blog as well. It’s been so damned busy for me these last few weeks, that most of my online time has been spent catching up on news headlines or reading up on my planned computer upgrade (just finished over the weekend, with mixed results). I’ll try to do better in the future.

Here’s a little update on Mac OS X compatible news aggregators:
* MulleNewz ( http://snipurl.com/5r8p ) is a docklet that offers RSS aggregation features, and has nothing to do with mullets.
* NetNewsWire Lite ( http://snipurl.com/5r8n ) is free.

I was going through the same thing with LJ. A friend of mine insisted I created an LJ account and I refuses plainly. I hate LJ and will never become a member for as long as I live. Telling him this, he created the “syndicated” account you speak of and showed it to me making such remarks like: “Ha! You are now a member!” I was pretty pissed in that and did some research only to find out that I am not, in fact, a member of the stupid LJ community and once again, I hold my ground as never becoming a member.
Death to LiveJournal.

Okay, three words for you Sean:
1. ANGER
2. MANAGEMENT
3. THERAPY
Some of my best friends are LiveJournal users because they can’t afford the hosting fees to do a MovableType or WordPress blog, or just because they don’t want to bother with all the configuration.
Jeez, I do a little gentle ribbing and you take it all the way over into hate-fest territory. If you’re going to continue commenting here, you’re going to have to chill. I don’t tolerate flamers or trolls on my blog, and the three posts you’ve made so far come very close. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, see the following:
