Paul: I don't know if I'd say that WordPress is better. It's more like it's better for my needs. It's much simpler than Drupal to set up and maintain, but it isn't as well suited to a large-scale site or to a community portal as Drupal is. Different tools are good for meeting different needs. I continue to use MT for my photoblog because it fills that role very well, for example.

Those interested in Drupal may want to read "Why Move from MT to Drupal" and "Drupal for Bloggers."

Mark: Glad I could help. As for the manners of trackbacking Mena's post again, I think it's good that they know people are moving over to WordPress and liking it. I think it's good that they realize how many talented plugin developers they're losing.

I like Movable Type, and in some ways prefer it over WordPress. That's why I'm going to keep running my photoblog on it. From everything I've heard, Ben and Mena are very nice people. Six Apart has certainly done a lot for the blogging community, and they set the bar for what a weblog CMS should be. That's why I think it's important for them to realize what an asset they have in the MT user community and how badly they're screwing up with their new pricing and licensing structure.

I don't mind paying for MT — in fact I've already donated $45 for pre-3.0 versions — but they're pricing themselves right out of the market with this latest move. Why pay up to several hundred dollars for limited use of MT when you can get ExpressionEngine for $150 ($99 for a competitive upgrade from MT) and have more features with unlimited use?

I knew it was probably pretty gauche of me to leave Y.A.T. (yet another trackback) to Mena's MT licensing post, but I consoled myself, thinking that something good, however small, might come of it. Then you come along and leave a comment on my blog, pointing me to this post with links to some great plugins and solutions, and I am vindicated after all. ;-) Thanks, Adam!
