From the peer-reviewed medical journal Pathology:

Autoerotic deaths: four cases.

Cooke CT, Cadden GA, Margolius KA.

State Health Laboratory Services, Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre, Nedlands, Western Australia.

We describe the circumstances and post mortem medical findings of 4 unusual fatalities where death occurred during autoerotic practice. Three cases occurred in young to middle-aged men–hanging, electrocution and inhalation of a zucchini. The manner of death in each was accidental. The fourth case was an elderly man who died of ischemic heart disease, apparently whilst masturbating with a vacuum cleaner and a hair dryer.

I don’t know about you, but I kind of wonder about the doctors who wrote this article more than the subjects of the article. I strongly suspect that they have a very twisted sense of humor.

  2. This is real shocking… couldn’t resist to speak about it here. Where is the world and culture heading to? I don’t find anything humorous in it.. but I really feel people are getting more insane every day… what the real hell…

  3. Vishal: I didn’t consider it that funny myself, which is why it’s not posted under the “humor” category. I was suggesting that what motivated the scientists to study and write on this topic may be the same impulse that inspires people to read the Darwin Awards for amusement.

Also, I wouldn’t waste much energy being alarmed at the contents of this study. People have been dieing in unusual ways for ages. Stories, both true and not so true, of bizarre sex acts have likewise been around forever.
