Thanks to an entry on the Liferea FAQ, I now know how to get an RSS feed for any LiveJournal. All it takes is a little URL magic.

Enter the following URL into your feed reader, replacing [username] with the correct username for your friend with the LJ:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/[username]/data/rss

Voila! By way of example, here are feeds for a couple of my friends’ LJ blogs:

Okay guys, now I can honestly promise to do a better job of staying up to date on your weblogs. :-D

Update: Gregory Blake shows how get access to friend-locked LJ posts through your feed reader.

Adam is a web developer and graphic designer who lives and works in south-central Kansas. He likes to speak his mind, both here and in his business blog. He only rarely writes about himself in the third person, honest. If you’d like to work with Adam, drop him a line.

  1. that led me to http://forever.p3k.org/rss/ from which I plagiarised some code to revamp my own homepage, http://stevehemingway.com. The RSS feed is automatically produced by LJ: I discovered this from Adam Messinger’s page which mentions this . Adam has produced a good collection of articles about this kind of stuff here. I hope that Mambo will soon be turning out an RSS feed for Fra’s phlogiston science magazine project.

  2. Incidentally, LJ now has it set up so that to get an RSS feed of a journal, you type in http://username.livejournal.com/data/rss (where username is the username of who’s LJ you want to get an RSS feed of)

  4. This feature is not always working with unicode-based languages, that’s why I use LI’s agreggator.

Say something, already
