The Return of wpPaginate

Scriptygoddess has resurrected her popular wpPaginate plugin for WordPress. It is now fully compatible with WordPress 1.5.

The built-in post paging features of WP 1.5 are nice, but I like the way Jennifer’s plugin did it better. I’m working on a new theme for this site, and will probably be making use of this plugin as part of that.

Ya.com and AtSpace.com — New Domains for Your Comment Spam Blacklist

I’ve been getting a lot of spam from what appear to be two free web hosts lately. I’ve added both ya.com and atspace.com to my MT-Blacklist configuration, with both set to moderate.

I’d hate to turn down any legit comments that might come from people hosted with these companies. If Technorati is any indication, there does seem to be some non-spam hosting going at at both companies. So far, though, I haven’t seen any legitimate traffic at all — just spam.

If this keeps up, these hosts will both get switched from moderate to block. My advice to anyone seeking web hosting is to look elsewhere. The fact that tons of spam is coming from their customers while they look the other way is reason enough not to give them your business.

This is officially the first time I’ve used rel="nofollow" in an entry.

Update

A member of the Atspace support team was nice enough to address my concerns about link spam in the comments to this entry. You can read our exchange below.

Sergio’s “Girl” Troubles

Sergio Villarreal, of Overcaffeinated fame, is having girl trouble again. That is, if you can call three racks of high-end computer equipment, a broadband connection, and the world’s most advanced natural language text parser a “girl.” I wouldn’t argue with Sarah about it though — she has a nasty temper.

“So, what ya running from, boss?”

My eyes widen and I start stuttering negatives with the grace of a stranded fish — “No, I, I mean… noth… er… what?”

“Aw, don’t make nothin’ of it, boss. Don’t mean to pry or anythin’, but one gets to know all sorts in this line of work, you know? Fella like you, fancy coat, grabbin’ a cab outta that dumpster of a neighborhood, it don’t take no rocket scientist to know ya must be runnin’ away, ye know?”

I am deflated — “I guess it’s that obvious… well, yeah, I guess I am.”

“A woman, huh?”

“Yeah, you could say that.”

“Sarah” is a very nice piece of hard SF, something fans of Clarke or Asimov would enjoy. Highly recommended if you’re into that sort of thing. :-)

Small Town Graffiti

Image: graffiti on a wall

On the road that leads up to Cemetery Hill, under the old railway bridge and highway overpass, you’ll see some of the only real graffiti art to be found in this town.

It’s nothing like the eye-popping polychromatic marvels you see in a major urban area, but some of it still has a charm and surreal beauty of its own. Monday evening I took some photos, and I’ve posted them to Low Pass Filter. The series starts here, and consists of five four images.

Fresh out of gamma testing, the stable build of WordPress 1.5 is now available for download.

No official announcement from Matt on Photomatt or the dev blog yet, but several others have picked up on the change to the download page. I found out from Weblog Tools Collection.

For good upgrade instructions, read this.
