Bill Gates ♥s Microformats

Bill Gates surprised and delighted a lot of geeky web developer types at the Mix06 conference with his announcement that “We need microformats.” Tantek Çelik was there, and has the details.

I honestly wasn’t sure microformats would ever go anywhere, but with Microsoft throwing its weight behind them they’re bound to take off. The question now is what Microsoft’s going to do that will screw it all up. ;-)

In related news, it looks like some cool microformat support is coming to Firefox 2.0.

  1. I got here through trackback from microformats.org. Funny thing: There, your post’s title looks like “Bill Gates vs Microformats” due to the smaller heart symbol. I wonder if that has more sense than one might think of in the first place.
