Thoughts on Sigur Rós
Sigur Rós: a band that performs songs about nothing in a made-up language. Only musicians from the same country that brought us Björk could simultaneously remind me of Nell and Seinfeld.
Despite this — or perhaps because of it — some of their work makes for surprisingly delicious ear candy. The 2005 album Takk… contains some of their first music that I heard, including the excellent “Sæglópur.” Supposedly these songs feature more lyrics in real Icelandic, but I wouldn’t know the difference.
To give you some idea of what I’m talking about, here’s the video for “Sæglópur”:
I can’t make heads or tails of the lyrics, but I know I like the sound.
